Why I love Working with Data
I have been called many things: data nerd, data wonk, data geek, excel queen, stats girl. And I have earned all of these nicknames by being incredibly enthusiastic about one thing: DATA. To me, having good data is a powerful thing. It provides you with answers to the questions that you asked. And, inevitably, it leads to more questions. This is a good thing! It means that you’re looking at your program or project in a new way, which will lead to more insights about the work that you’re doing.
Just to be clear, when I use the term data, I’m really referring to information that is formal and structured. The word data can have multiple meanings, and some of them very technical. The word statistics is often used interchangeably as well. Data can also refer to your cell phone package – but that’s not what I’m talking about here!
What I’m talking about is information that is used to provide knowledge about a topic and that can be used to make informed decisions.
And I think that’s one of the most important things about data – it should be used for some kind of action! Sure, learning about a topic is nice. But doing something with that new knowledge is much more meaningful and impactful.
So, I’m working on spreading the love of data! I want other people to be excited about using data, too. And not just other nerds! I want to help people better understand how to use data in everyday life, whether it’s understanding what data is associated to your social media accounts, or running analytics for your website – and what you can actually do with that information.
The secret is that data doesn’t have to be complicated to be meaningful!
Most times we’re just adding or calculating percentages! But understanding and being comfortable working with data will provide you with better skills and tools.
So, let’s talk about your DATA PAINS, and we’ll see what we can figure out together! Subscribe to the email list and start your journey to becoming a data geek!
